FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the advantages of block level replication?

Compared to file level replication, which requires the entire file to be copied during the replication process, block level replication will copy only changed blocks within the file during replication. Therefore, replicating at the block level provides significantly reduced bandwidth requirements. Additionally, replicating at the block level decreases the overall timeframe for replication, speeding up the entire process.

Is this a backup solution?

It is necessary for the Production server and the Replication server to run on the same OS?

No, it is not necessary for the production server and replication server to be running the same operating system as cross platforms are fully supported.

How does Data Reflector© handle the replication of databases?

When dealing with database languages such as Progress, Informix, and Oracle, the database should be closed first. Once the database is closed, the data is then exported and replicated to the replication server.

What happens when in the middle of a replication, the connection hangs and it needs to be restarted? Does the replication process restart automatically? Will the entire replication process need to start over again or will it pick up where it left off?

In the next release, if the connection were to hang, Data Reflector© will restart the replication process immediately once the connection resumes. With the use of synchronization, Data Reflector© will know where it left off and resume the replication process from that point.
